Sent by his new family - The
Gordons in FL: Hooch originated from a pet shop in New York. A woman
bought him and for whatever reason she could not keep him. She sold him
to an someone in Florida for $1000. When he came to Florida he was 8
months old. The people he lived with did not know how to properly care
for him. He developed skin trouble from a poor diet and fleas and was
banished to either the hot garage or porch. They asked me several times
to take him, but I had seven dogs of various types. I did not know the
condition of the dog but was concerned because I knew that he was kep in
a hot garage. Having had many types of bulldogs and being a certified
vet tech, I am well aware that they cannot take the heat. I actually
called the rescue number and decided that I would take it upon myself to
find him a home. You explained to me that there were no foster homes in
Florida at the time. I volunteered to take the dog and evaluate him
myself. I never called back because it was love at first sight. I had
recently lost my 12 year old English Bulldog, and he was just what I
needed even though I still had three other dogs. I acquired him in May
2000. He was 90 lbs. at that time. They did not feed him a consistent
diet, instead he was fed free dog food samples and table scraps. At
first he was a picky eater but after about a month, he was eating
great!! Hooch is now 4 years old (Jan. 6, 2001) and weighs 110lbs. His
skin is beautiful and he is happy just to eat and sleep in air
conditioning. His name is not very original, but I kept it since he had
already been through a pet shop and two other owners. This picture was
taken the first day that I got him. This dog has the best disposition.
Thank you for you initial information. You were very helpful last May. -
